Yvonne Mwevezi

I am 15 years old. I live in Soweto slums in Kawangware with my mother and six siblings.

In 2009 I sat for my Kenya Certificate of Primary Education at St.Deborah Girls Primary School examination but I did not manage to go to high school because my mother fell ill and could not raise enough money for school fees.

I was supposed to join high school in February 2010. Since then, I have been working at my mother’s vegetable stall. Every morning I go to the market to buy vegetables that I resell at the stall for the rest of the day. On a good day we make kshs 70.00(less than 1dollar) otherwise we make Kshs.50.00. From this stall we are able to feed ourselves while the rest of the money is spent on medicine for my ailing mother.
